I have always love DT's swing but he has one move to start his downswing that I could never figure out what (or why) he was doing it. After watching the 1st half of NSA I am wondering if DT is performing the twistaway move to start his downswing and then just turning through to a complete finish?

Don't ask me why, but if I delay the twistaway until the transition, I have much, much greater impact alignments and ball compression. It gives my hands something to do, as opposed to twistaway in the backswing. My hands cannot do nothing that long if I twistaway early. Weird...

He does have a slight bowing of the wrist at the transition, why he does it and if this is something he does on purpose i don't know.

All i know is that his swing is designed to hit the ball fairly straight or a slight fade. Brian can expand.

It was an article that discussed how the wrists were set (left wrist flat, right bent, like you do with the twistaway) at the transistion between the backswing and downswing. The article showed several pictures of David Toms.

I have thought about this article several times when BM is referring to his coaching of D. Toms.

Getting to a twistaway position at the top seem to be a good way to go, but I would not suggest experiencing too much with this without supervision of someone who know what they are doing. But I guess if one has a grip which does not allow for cocking of the right wrist, and monitors PP#3 (PP#3 behind the shaft at all times), it could be a good way to go. Note that I am a novice but this is my two cent worth...

I do the exact same thing and but the only difference is at the top of my backswing my left wrist is not completely flat.

When I do it it help me get my hand ahead of the clubface at impact and allows me to compress the ball better.

But at the same time it might contribute to my plane being to flat at times....

Brian or anyone else.... what's your input on this phenomenon?

Calvin Peete...

Only 1 other player I've ever seen did a "twistaway" move in transition - Calvin Peete - he hit it pretty straight as I recall.

have you seen Tom Bartlett swing

I did see some down-the-line video on this site of Tom and I didn't detect a "twistaway" move in transition. I guess I'll have to check it out again I probably missed something.

Come to think of it, I have seen others - aside from Peete - that apeared to have a similar move in transition. Lee Trevino and Bruce Leitzke come to mind
