dee-lay the twist-away

Brian and others,

I have always had a twist-away backswing and have always fought hooks, many from leakage. I have always enjoyed the mechanical simplicity of twist-away with feels like the club sets through my hands. Yesterday on the range I decided to not twist on the backswing but to delay that same twist for the downswing. The feel was the clubface sort of flops around on the backswing (a rather powerless feel) and then twist the hosel around the sweetspot in the downswing. Good Lord, son, I was killing it and went from wishing I had no right hand to wanting Hogan's 3. Any thoughts?

Use more extensor action - you can do as much as you want of 'twist away' IF you have FULL extensor action and you can do as LITTLE as you want of 'twist away' IF you have FULL extensor action.

Both assuming a proper grip

I experimented with twist-away and always hit it solid but it was exactly the opposite of what my natural swing was like (I like to open the face more, rarely hit left, prone to pushes if timing is off). As a result, I also hit hooks (I don't think it was from leakage though- I was smokin it, just never got used to not driving my right arm so much). [EDIT] I could hit it very well if I opened the face a bit, but I didn't wanna do that...seemed half-assed to me (I'm anal like that tho).

I also found my pitch shots to be too low and left. (those could have been leakage/decelerating I think).

I loved the feel of that takeaway though now that I think about it...it didn't feel like my hands were "floating" as much...that "floating" feel is actually what I now seek but it's hard to trust it if I'm not swinging so well. Like you said, it feels "floppy" sometimes.

Twist-away feels like you have to resist the rolling of your hands a bit, but they don't feel like they're "in limbo."

I'm now working on tightening my swing (I guess that's what you'd call it) so it is kinda in between the twist-away and my current "floppy" method (weak grip, arms rotated open too independent of the turn, which left my clubface open at the top).

Ya...lol, just wanted to talk about that for a bit.

*Ahem* Carry on. [8D]:D
