Dipping (now with video)

Guys

I have been reviewing a lot of video over the last few weeks and wanted to get everyones opinion on a few things. On Driver swings that I hit hard low hooks my head really drops on the downswing and as this happens my right hand really shuts the clubface down. I don't ever hit the ball fat and have lots of forward lean on these shots but they go low and left. My question is two fold. First, is dipping your head on the downswing bad? What should your head do height wise on the downswing (stay level rise or lower)? Thanks for your help. Kermit

It sounds like your path is a little too downward and in-to-out, maybe as a result of too much axis tilt. You might want to check out the NHA sticky, and also sniff around for some of the recent info about hitting up on the driver. Or post vidieo and get some free, top quality advice courtesy of the forum's many fine instructors.

Thanks for your help so far. The head dipping occurs late in the downswing (video below) right before impact. As you can see by this video the club gets very closed and the ball goes dead left due to the face.

Thanks for your time.

If you are looking at the 2 or 3 second mark where should the head of the club or face be? From an untrained eye, I would have never said this, but again this is why I probably struggle.

yes, would be interesting to know what the "trained eye" is looking for...

I don't know how trained my eye is, but it looks to me like he's swinging towards the guy on the bench. That's just how the direction of the swing appears to me. Pause the video at :07.

as far as too out to in, what i see is mostly in the "follow through" and "finish" :)07 - :09)

follow through: club stays "down the line" too long (not left quickly enough).

finish: hands and clubhead are very "high" (around hip height).

however, i guess what i was originally trying to say is that if the op hadn't stated it was a hook, and brian didn't say it was too in to out, i'm not sure i would have noticed this!

the downswing is under the plane, inside out and the club is being flipped over through impact. With low hands in the takeaway he has too much hip slide causing the under and inside out flip, no?

You have talent. Don't change a thing and try and duplicate this shape. Try and hit big pull cuts. You won't be able to do it. You'll modify your "carry" and attack angle. Right now you are too shallow.

I see too much clubhead travel with left arm popout early in the swing (just my opinion). The rest is a save from an undercut block.

We've seen kermitm"s swing before. Way too much talent here to not get this thing right.

Like the Tom Watson Youtube video about his "secret"? Feeling like he was hitting an OTT pull cut to zero out his path.

what's that?

Dear Kevin,

Could you spell out what you mean by too much clubhead travel? Thanks.

Thanks for everyone's help so far. I have a few questions. What is left arm pop out? I think it is when the left arm works to far out from the right leg on the initial takeaway, but what does this cause? It is hard to see in the youtube video because of quality, but the clubface is very closed with a few feet to go in the downswing. It looks like to me the right hand is slamming it closed and I was wondering what casues this? Could this closed clubface make me swing more to the right? Also, the real weird thing is that a lot of my divots (with irons) point left of my target. How could this be when I swing so far to the right with my driver. Thanks again. Kermitm

I don't think you should be hitting with the two people sitting on the bench. Just my op.
Other than that a very good swing. I wish I had that swing.
