I have heard that to tacky them up a bit, wash them. Wash them with what? Just warm soap and water and let them air dry?

Any thoughts?

I sweat a lot and play in humid conditions. I just bought some Iomic Sticky grips, might be worth the bucks. I hate most of the Winn grips, anything that gets slick when you sweat.

But I do try to clean the grips with warm water and soap periodically.

Take some sand paper and give the grips a little scrubbing with the sand paper then wash them with comet cleaner and they will be very tacky.

+1 for this, I use 180-200 wet and dry paper, just a very light sanding once every 3-4 outings, and in between I use warm soapy water and a scourer pad, I think you yanks call them "brillo pads" :D

And if you play a lot, replace them at least once a year. I replace twice a year.

+1

Replace them once a year, at least. If the price seems steep, then buy some grip tape and solvent and do it yourself - that way you can regrip a whole set of irons for under $30.

Hi, Where do I find instructions on how to do this? Thank you.

A club pro several years ago put me on to a product for cleaning auto tires called "Westley's Bleche-Wite". Does a great job cleaning grips and leaves them tacky and doesn't harm the rubber. Just spray on and wipe off with a towel.

Regripping Tools

I've had this stuff for years, like 25 years. If I were equip myself now, here's what I would recommend.

1. You need a Stanley Knife with a hook blade for easy grip removal.
2. I would buy the 2" rolls of tape rather than the strips, slightly cheaper.
3. I would not use water activated tape.
4. I understand Coleman lantern fuel works well as a solvent.
5. I would buy the shaft clamp that has the metal plates on the side.
Just works better than the non-metal version. You need a vice.
6. Pay attention to the butt diameter of your iron shafts. Probably will be
0.580 for regular flex and 0.600 for stiff.
7. Buy your grips to fit the shaft.
8. You can google to find out about how to build up grips with extra wraps
of tape.

Once you do your first set, total elapsed time is less than 45 minutes per set.

Thanks Steve. Ill give it a go in the next couple of weeks.

Better yet, I blow mine on with an air compressor. Zero chemicals, fast, can take grips on and off if you would like. Just blew on a new putter grip, took me maybe 30 seconds.

Blow on grips. Yes, but first you need an air compressor. Second, it doesn't work with all grips (They blow up like a balloon). Third, blown on grips can slip (twist) on the shaft.

Been there, done that, back to traditional way.

While we're talking about grips...

The best grip I have found for the Florida climate and my sweaty hands are the Lamkin Dual Density Torsion Control. They are comfortable, always tacky and need minimal cleaning.

also get you a tube of DRY GRIP one "pea sized" drop at the beginning of the round and your hands will not sweat for the rest of the day........apply again at the turn if you are a heavy sweater
