Does creating more lag and keeping the hands ahead reduce driver distance?

I have worked very hard on lag and making sure my hands stay ahead of the clubhead for two years. My irons shots are crisper and roughly the same distance. I have lost 50 yards on drives, so when I used to have driver 7 iron on a hole, today it's driver and 2 hybrid.

My handicap has not gone up because my short game is much better.

Does this make sense?

Wow that's horrible.

Post a swing maybe we can fix you.

...

When I get home I'll post a good pic of David Mobley....RE/MAX World Long Drive Champion.....

Or look at Charles Howell....

Or Bobby Schaeffer......don't have a real good face on of him but I bet he looks like that.

...

Tilt is real important....or else you'll hit low mashed pulls.

Maybe you are over doing the whole "hands ahead of the clubhead" thingy??? Does it feel forced??? Contrived position???

I prefer the feeling of holding lag pressure rather than forcing my hands ahead at impact. Hands ahead at impact for me is a result and not a forced action...

This goes against the TGM grain, but Evershed has it right!!! It's easier for me and possibly most golfers to achieve a flat left (lead) wrist by focusing on maintaining the bend in the right hand (trailside.) It's cool when a flat left (lead) wrist becomes a result rather than something that is forced.

I know that some guys have argued in the past that Evershed has it half right, but that's so silly. Who cares how you achieve a flat left wrist as long as it is FLAT at impact?

That be mi dime n nickel! YYMV

True Throwout Action!

Say it three times fast!

Ben Doyle calls it "shootin' the tube."

Basically, there is a imaginary marble in the shaft. Halfway down the marble is in the grip end.

You job is to THROW IT OUT (get it?), at the ball (or past it some) as FAST AS YOU CAN.

This MAY include trigger delay, but I have a 14 yr old girl who can hit it 250+ with a CIRCLE DELIVERY PATH.

....but she "shoots the tube!

Me thinks you keep the marble in too long artificially, and when the marble comes out—it just dribbles out.

SHOOT IT!!!

I really like this analogy. Thanks Brian.

I think you are EXACTLY right. It feels as if the clubhead never catches the hands, sort of like a baseball hitter checking a swing and going around. The body pivots all the way around but the bat stays behind the hands all the way to the follow through.

I screwed my self up with this too. Lag ain't just keeping the clubhead behind your hands. That is accumlator lag which is all fine and dandy. But your accumlators HAVE to RELEASE. Like Ben and Brians Marbles and Shafts . . . You have to let CF or the Right Arm UNCOCK your LEFT WRIST . . . otherwise you are way off plane and you don't get to full extension. You can do all that and STILL HAVE LAG PRESSURE. There is a difference between Lag Pressure and Accumulator Lag. Accumulators are released but Lag Pressure has NO RELEASE point.

That's why I'm the host-est with the most-est.

Thanks, Leek.

This has been my problem.I was going to start a new thread stating that my back swing is great and I was told that I slow down my swing at the bottom. I lead with my hands and body slides forward. Now this could be my answer to my problem. Brian thats a good way of doing it. So is this like Tomasello said to extend the club head at the ball at the ball. Make the marble go out to the ball, right????
