Does everybody here lag the sweetspot? (with Brian Manzella Video Answer)

I think this is probably the single biggest thing that helped my swing and it took along time to figure out on my own what it feels like. When I first learned how it was the sweetest most pure sensation I'd ever had hitting balls. It's like you can feel it through that trigger finger up into your body. With people that have super strong right hand grips I don't see how they'd ever feel it, too bad.One more thing I like about it is if you have any leakage, that balls going left. Don't flip and you've got mega compression:)

I finally got it after watching NSA 2.0 and working with the twistaway even though I was not a slicer, I never felt lagging the sweetspot until I did twistaway, I cant say I do it 100% correct all the time, but when I do it feels so nice :D!

can you give a quick 'lesson' on how you achieve this? i don't have nsa, but have his other videos. thanks

One method to get the feeling is to have someone put their finger on the sweetspot (lightly) while you are pulling it down. I know this helped me.

You can also press the sweetspot agains some immovable object and see how the club feels against your trigger finger, then do the same with the hosel, and you can feel a huge difference in the pressure put on your trigger finger doing these 2 things. Learning the right feel to lag the sweetspot has given me much better ball contact, everything feels really crisp.

I showed Brian's little trick to my wife today and she went from having no swing "guts" to having some "guts" in about two minutes....the clubface "facing" the ball in the takeaway helped too. Obviously to much of a good thing can give you a stomach ache, but I think she's coming around.

She has excellent motion with no action and this "finger on the sweetspot" feel was the magic that I think will get her to the next level (not a big level, but at least a constant 90 shooter).

As a quick side question.....

What do you mean by this:

She has excellent motion with no action

I know it's from TGM....would have to dig thru the book to pin it down tho.

I assume it's a physics/geometry deal.

It is amazing how well this drill works for me. After working on float loading at the range yesterday, I started hitting 5 irons terribly, either a shank or low pull. I took my right thumb off the club, voila, the best 5 irons I have hit all year. High, slight draw. Thanks Brian for a great video answer. Does the backswing plane have any effect on lagging the hosel? I am working on show your armpits in order to get more on the turning shoulder plane and find I really have to watch out for lagging the hosel.

I had been trying this,,with no much success, now I know I was doing it wrong..I was doing the thumb part right,,but still keeping the first finger cocked. Can't wait to try it with the first finger more matched to the sweetspot. Trying to get more consistent so that rounds like yesterday are gone- 37 on the front and a freaking 44 on the back.with pushes with the driver and lagging hosels and 3 putts on the back nine!
