Don't under emphasize "heel pad on top"

Been a manzella.com faithful for 9 months. Started w/ Confessions, then "The Movie". Have made significant progress, but was still an inconsistent partial Flipper.

However, recently went w/ NSA ver 2. Faithfully took notes and brought then to range.

Then nirvana occurred. It was the heel pad stupid. An ultra conscious effort to have the left hand heel pad "distinctly on top" of the grip resulted in all of the good things that have been missing. A penetrating trajectory was the ultimate result.

I have stuggled with a 6 hcp for several years due to miss hits, primarily leaks to the right. I have always fought with a sense that the grip was never quite right.

Question: How many out there have been down this road where it has been a grip issue, particularly poor heel pad position that has led to inconsistency?

Always. The main problem I have with the "left heel pad on top" is that it always slides off due to moisture or sweaty hands. It's extremely annoying. There is a lot of friction obviously when your left heel pad is on top of the grip. So if there is a little moisture or sweatiness in between, thumb pad slides off.

me to. i suppose thats why pros clean their grips religiously after each shot, and take their gloves off.

Grips were the first thing i looked at when teaching, even "better" players. Most didn't have the heel pad in a position to support impact and their left wrist would break down.

What does "distinctly on top" mean? Do we have a picture? I'll do a search...I am positive Brian did a piece on the proper grip.

If you are looking at your left hand, the heel pad is the portion of the hand to the right of the lifeline, correct? Or is it the part below your thumb?

The part below your thumb is your thumb-pad. The fleshy area below the thumb-pad is your heel-pad (the part you would use to karate chop).
