down, forward, and out when chipping

I understand that you should swing through the back left quarter of the ball out toward right of target. Does this hold on all swings from the basic to the total swing, from chipping to a full swing? If one does not swing out toward right of target, and instead tries to hit the back of the ball down the target line, does that incorrect move promote flipping?

So much of it depends on how you set up for the shot and how you wish to deliver the club to the ball.

But, imo, the answer is yes...there is down, out and through. The degree of this approach of the club to the inside rear quadrant is less in a chip shot than a pitch or full shot.

I'd say on average a pitch or full shot can around to 45* (a drive could be 60*) where as a chip shot would be more like 20-30* depending on how big the chip.
