And no, I do not want you criticizing my little boy's swing- but take notice of the tremendous downswing squat. Although moving the head like that is obviously not recommended, it seems to be the opposite of most hackers who raise up on the downswing as they throwaway. I would not begin to tell the little guy to stop doing it, nor would I know how to explain it to him. But I can't do it when I try without sticking the club in the ground behind me.

Can anybody shed some light on this swing dynamic?

Can you say a bit more about why it's a bad habit?

It looks to me like he's applying a lot of down plane force, and not just trying to lift the ball (as a lot of young players would do).

Downplane force is created naturally when the left arm swings down-and-out and forward. I do not think that a golfer needs to increase the downward component by dipping the torso. I believe that a golfer should keep the upper swing center as stationary as possible throughout the swing. One will not hit up on the ball if the ball is placed behind low point, because the clubhead will naturally be descending down-and-out-and forward to its low point - opposite the left shoulder socket.

Jeff.

Cool looking downswing. The squat looks great. As far as why the squat, get into the backswing position your son is in, standing straight up and figure out what you have to do to hit the ball mostly just using your pivot.

The best swing ever posted on this forum! Looks just like a normal 4yr. old.( I would not begin to tell the little guy to stop doing it, nor would I know how to explain it to him.)one of the smartest statements i've read on this forum!

I agree. Really smart.

At the short game practice area at my course there's been a guy in his 30's with a very young daughter who is cute as a button (maybe 6 years old?) hitting pitch and chip shots A LOT. The little girl loves it. i watched her hit some and half the shots she was hitting were almost thin, tour pitch like shots, low with plenty of spin - crazy good. The other half were going everywhere. The dad smartly lets her mostly just have lots of fun.

I told him she'd be beating him in 3-4 years. He told me she already beat him on the kids par 3 course.

Hey, jackass...the guy said he didn't want anybody criticizing his little boy's swing. Go spread your charm somewhere else or I'll post your miserable flail for everyone to make fun of.

Come on . Jeffmann has an awesome swing but the kid may be better

Great Swing

Great squat and Great carry takeaway!

The squat sets up two important power dynamics; first it pumps kinetic power into the swing, second it sets one up to shorten the swing radius through the release interval..that kid is going to pound it as he matures.

If I could stay behind the ball like that I probably wouldn't hit it like a girl.:D

Not to hijack the thread but please post a video of Jeffmann's swing. I mostly want to verify what I think must be true - that Jeffmann is short (my guess is he is shorter than 5'8"). He has short man's syndrome FOR SURE.
