Drills to cure OTT

Until he responds, do a search for Brian's article on how to get rid of your slice. I believe the article is "Never Slice Again." This idea seems to get at the root of the over the top problem. Basically you use twistaway to ensure that you don't have a very open clubface at the top, which basically mandates an over the top move.

I am square up top w/ a flat wrist. First move down just seems to be with the upper body and over the top. Marks on driver to prove it.

This came from the iseek austrailian forum. You can check out vidoes and threads there.

The first thing to check is that your pivot is correct. Do not overturn your hips and move your lower body excessivelly. Along with that is keep your weight towards the heels of your feet throughout the swing. The claim is it is impossible to go over the top unless your weight moves to your toes.

Check the iseek threads for more details

No offense to you Dave but its perfectly possible to go over the top even if you are sitting down!

Throwing the right (trailing) shoulder out towards the ball is the culprit. Your feet are only for standing on.

Go to iseekgolf and read the thread, before bagging someone out. It is an excellent discussion. Indeed, the thread leads exactly to what you have said... basically, bad pivot leading to throwing the shoulder out instead of dropping it. The pivot shown in the little clips is what I see 99% of the hackers I have ever played with doing.

He wasn't bagging on him....c'mon....

...

The way I read it....is....ok throwing the trail shoulder out....yes that's an OTT move essentially...

But I think there is MORE 'why' to it than that....often, anyhow.

Yep, I agree. Bagging out was perhaps a bit harsh. Sorry. From my own experience, cocking the right wrist forces an OTT in alot of cases as well... the only way to get it back to the ball reasonably square is to OTT.

I visit "iseekgolf" every day of the week and am fully familiar with the thread in question. Furthermore, despite being resident in England, I have met (on two continents), and come to know, some of the main contributors.

Bagging people out is not, nor ever was, my intention. But, facts are facts and your feet are never going to cause, let alone correct, a faulty shoulder motion.

Make sure you have enough spine tilt at set-up and make sure your head does not move laterally toward the target in the downswing. Combine this with a moderate weight shift and you should be much better off. Also, make sure you are not lifting your arms to reach the top of the backswing. Your backswing shoulder turn and arm swing should stop about the same time. Whenever possible, compare your swing to tour pros and try to figure out what elements seem to be the furthest from those that have "orthodox" swings.
