Driver Fitting Stats/Figures

Went to a local store and did a bit of driver testing.

On top out of a number of high level drivers was the Nicklaus 10.5' fast back.

This was with a Fujikura SG Pro 3.01 TS shaft S flex

I just wondered if the techies could let me know how these stats sounded

Driver average clubhead speed 100.4 on 40 shots hit. Top speed was 105mph but I don't quite "go after it" these days as i'm still recovering from a neck problem.

Ball Speed average about 145mph, top speed 156mph.

Spin rate was lowest with Nicklaus at about 3550rpm, average launch angle of 16'

I had highest number of centre hits with this too.

Computer worked out average ball carry of about 256 yards and again was highest with the Nicklaus driver.

Weird how the cheapest driver can give the best stats of a lot of other branded drivers.

For the price this driver will do me until Spring and my full custom fit, but how do those numbers sound?

I don't know anything about it.............

Cheers

Given your ball speed of 145mph with a max of 156mph I would say your launch angle and spin is a touch high. Generally, you would want to be around 14 degrees of launch with 3300 rpms.

When testing, make sure you are hitting the same ball you will be playing

Jay,

Many thanks for the input. I actually compared the ProV1 and Callaway Tour iX for my last 5 shots (guy in shop made me buy them  )

Callaway ball speed was a little higher, I am also a little steep with my swing at present so I expect that to come down. Which I presume would be a good thing thank god.

Thanks Jay

Excellant observations! Launch and spin are definitely too high and I thought I would be the only one to say make sure you are hitting the same ball for each swing! Well done!

They sound optimistic. I base this only by comparison to my Trackman Fitting sometime back. Driver swing speed 102 , average carry 235, spin 3000'ish, can't remember launch angle. Dispersion was a big factor, but the combo that generated the best stats also was the most consistent dispersion wise. Trackman is more accurate than an indoor launch monitor. If the price is right, then who cares.

What system was used to take the measurements? I've seen tooooo many goofy numbers on anything other than 3D Doppler, so don't put too much weight on those numbers being gospel. Given the description, you basically did a comparative test with the one driver being the best of the bunch. That's certainly good enough until you're able to get a proper fitting next Spring.
