Driver Pull and Pop-up

Hello,

Great website I found last week!

I bought NSA last week to help with my open clubface at the top. My new instructor noticed it and we worked hard on fixing it, and NSA really helped! I am very upset my previous instructor never mentioned it, as he was worried about me swing in-to-out which only caused huge push slices!

Anyway my swing is much better, and I have hit a few hooks and pull hooks with NSA. I still have the occasionally slice but it is very weak and my fade is looking good.

I have started pulling my hybrid some and I think its caused by an out-to-in swing path with a square clubface to the path. When I try to swing more to the right I just leave the clubface open and slice it. Any suggestions?

My big problem is the driver. Sometimes is goes straight to slightly left or right and over 200 yards(Thanks again to NSA as I could not hit it this year before purchasing the video). More often I hit a pop-up pull anywhere from 50-150 yards. I mean a few of these looked like Lob Wedge shots! I am catching the ball near the heel on the top of the club. I have a vinyl pop-up guard the shows the ball marks at the top. Any suggestions on possible causes? I setup with the ball half above the club and I hover the club off the toe.

Thanks

watch brians youtube video about hitting the driver. think its episode 7

try abit moe axis tilt at setup, and also make sure you lag the sweetspot on the DS

Without seeing your swing, it sounds like an overly steep path.

To level it out - tee up a 9 iron (good 2-3" off the ground).

Hit it.

Do this 10x in a row.

Feel the difference. In order to make contact, you'll need to shallow out the path. You should be able to hit nice draws or fades.

Tee up a driver.

Hit it.

If you start to struggle, go back to the teed up 9 iron.

Also before you hit th driver, just focus on clipping the tee. Put the tee in the ground and make slow, smooth swings and feel the head just clip the tee. You need to be able to do this fairly consistently.

I watched the video and it helped as I could not hit it at all before (mental block I think as I tend to over analyze things)

I will try more tilt but I think I have a good amount. Sometimes I don't get my weight through to the left side, so I am not sure if I have to much tilt right.

I'll give it a try. I was thinking steep and over the top as well. I try to imagine more of a baseball type swing and take it back flatter. I need to get it on video to see. 1 out of 5 goes straight and far, so I know something must be right at least occasionally.

As some one who has only played for short time...

I used to struggle with that.

I would get Brian and Mike Jacob's new video....10 things every golfer should know. There is a better section in there on the driver specifically.

Also, the previously mentioned utube video....do a forum search for driver as well.

I dont ever pop the driver up any more. I have learned to flatten the swing, set up for it properly, tee it higher and hit it on the up swing...and most importantly...for me....I must make sure I post up on the RIGHT leg....I mean really get on top of that right leg (I am right handed). This is the only way I get far enough behind the ball to load up and crush it. When I just turn and don't get up on the right leg, my drives are much shorter and since I'm not really fully turning, all kinds of compensations cause the ball to go all over the place. While I don't pop it up...I am more steep when I don't get far enough behind the ball with the driver.

Bill,

I will review the youtube video again. I think it all mental even my instructor says my swing looks go until contact.

For now I have been using my 3 wood which goes 210-220.

Now I am hitting big pushes off the toe of my short irons and wedges. I posted another thread on that.
