driver upshooting

played in a scramble the other day, (and i know partly due to trying to be more aggressive) with my driver i tended to upshoot the shot with a very high trajectory. didn't feel i was driving through and found myself prob. staying back a bit. anyone have any drills that will give me a more boring trajectory for my tee shots?

I tend to hit up shooters when I start the downswing way to early and part of my swing stops due to timing issues. Tiger Woods is great for golf but bad to copy (fall back and thrashing at the ball). I like Ernie Els (when hes on) hits 3/4 drivers that go almost as far as his normal driver. Why? All in contacting the sweet spot. Sorry no mathmatecal formulas from me.

Im a feel player. What has worked for me? After viewing this forum and learning the basics of the Kinetic Chain, my take on this for my swing is to twist the hands and clubhead more in the back swing and separte my hands/and hands from grip after impact has gotten me back on track to being scratch again. Thank the lord.

Any scrambles I play in it always comes down to putts! So save your back!

no, just the driver. i think i hold my right shoulder back and this may tend to add loft to the driver as i swing through. contact and direction are fine.

high shot all the way. usually not much curvature. i know i must be adding loft, but not sure why. don't seem to do it with others including three wood.

Easy as Pie...

Your "Upshoots" are caused from TOO STEEP an angle of attack.

You need to try to "swing under the stick" so-to-speak.

To do that, you need to have a wide enough stance, a deep enough right shoulder on the backswing, and enough axis tilting on the downswing.

That why I tell golfers that right before you hit your driver, pretend that Shaquille O'Neal—"The Big Aristotle"—is standing in front of you. Shaq reachees hos long right arm out and pushes your right shoulder AWAY from the ball at address, saying:

"Hey little man, get that right shoulder back."

It's funnier in person. ;)

He can't be that bad to copy!

(well.....not to say you should COPY anyone but......pretty orthodox....esp. w/o Haney.....)

Birdie Man, so you are saying we should copy his scramble swing with a driver? The subject is about someone having trouble with an upshooting driver, not taking pot shots at my opinion.

Well it wasn't that much of a potshot...I could've done way better with that I think but I am a nice guy. I actually was trying to be light with my comment and maybe should have used an emoticon to evoke obvious friendliness. Excuse my error in judgement please.

...

He has his problems but he has done ok lately.

He does a lot of things right anyway that's for sure- which is all I was really saying.

ok. was on a launch monitor today to do some experimenting. yes, my angle of attack is a bit steep and need to find a way to shallow it out. tried the various tips here but still was steep. ss is about 100 plus or minus a couple on average w/o being too aggressive. find i have a bit outside in swing path, but this doesn't show up too much on the course.
through trial and error, i got my swing angle of attack at level or even a degree hitting up on the ball. path was even or slightly inside. the way i did this was to step closer to the ball. i feel though as i have lost some speed in doing this by several mph. is this common? i don't feel as if i'm swinging the club but rather it's like i'm pushing it from this closer position. hmmmm.

pieman-

If you are a 2PS, feel like your arms drop down more into the "slot". I great drill no one ever talks about it Ryan Moore hooving the club almost chest high at address and swings from the position, yes even in tournaments (not anymore last time I checked). Hopefully this drill will narrow your flatter swing quest.

Brian - are you using the "Shaq" image to achieve a more closed shoulder set up position setting up for a more level shoulder turn in the backswing?
