Dropping the club into the slot

hi all I was wondering if I can get some feedback on how "dropping the club into the slot" should feel. My tendency is to get "stuck" aka swinging too far to the right. My misses are big high pushes or low hooks. When I had an instructor while back, the videos showed that I consistently came under the plane in my downswing. My best shots are the ones where I put most of my weight towards the toe of my feet at setup and I literally fall towards the ball on the follow through.

Should "dropping the club" be primarily a "down" move or should it also have an "out" component? I have a little gut (getting old)which can get in the way and makes me want to drop the club down and out a little in front of me in order to fully clear my right side.

You mean "down-shifting" to the Elbow Plane?

My tendency is to get "stuck" aka swinging too far to the right.

Then why do you want to drop ANYTHING? You need to go straight down plane to the ball.

...videos showed that I consistently came under the plane in my downswing...

Sooooo....aim just BARELY at the inside-aft quadrant, and hit ity on the way down. Also, MAKE DAMN SURE that the club goes UP & IN after Low Point.

Hard to go backward and forward at the same time.

However, I really think you can do better than that.

You shouldn't TRY to drop anything, unless that is what you NEED to do, doesn't sound like you need to.

Define "clear you right side":

(Sounds like a closet TGMer ;) )

Yes or the way I've always thought of it is the point in the downswing where the shaft is parallel to the ground.

You mean down the shoulder turn plane?

This was a great tip. Thanks. In the past I was so insistent on coming from the inside that I visualized my club pointing right of the target line after releasing the club.

Not sure what you meant by this but I've always thought that putting weight on the front of my feet was important for my build because it forced me to bend over the ball more and gave me more space to clear my "right side".

Are you suggesting that I try hitting along my shoulder turn plane? I've always downshifted to my elbow plane as I was taught by my friend when I first started playing.

Define "clear you right side":

I guess I mean clearing my right hip so that my right arm can swing freely through. My gut always seems to get in the way of my right elbow on my downswing. Could it be that two plane swings require ppl with more athletic builds?

I'm trying to educate myself more about TGM and golf swing. I find that being a technical person, TGM is very appealing.
