Early extension

Videotaped myself today and noticed that my hips were thrusting forward and I was lifting up in the downswing. I tend to block a lot of shots with an occasional hook thrown in. Any suggestions on how to correct this.

Thanks

nothing wrong with a little hip slide, but the lifting up may be happening so you can make room for a flip.

The block and the hook are the same cause (just a different clubface position at separation)

Try "walking" onto your left side, i.e. extend your left leg earlier, which advances your pivot...this should be combined with shortening your right side to keep your swing center from raising...this involves compressing the right side and bending your right knee....

Once your ball sets off in the right direction you can adjust your clubface....

That's my way, but I am sure you are going to also get the advice to adjust your clubface first....whichever works best....:D

Tumble

Kevin,

Please explain what tumble means. How does it help cause a player not to early extend?

I know what the thread title was but i read thrusting hips, blocks and hooks. Sounds like high hands, low underplane club. If you tumble the clubhead without losing sweetspot pressure it goes a long way to helping you keep your hips back and get your right arm back out in front of you

The tumble is taking sweetspot pressure out toward the ball avoiding to much force along the shaft. The carry (out or toward to the target) is just keeping your hands high, carrying them with a fall or your pivot and dropping them later.
