Elbow Pain Help

Thanks again for all of the great information on this site.

I've been having a lot of trouble with elbow pain in my lead (left) arm lately. The injury started as pain just below the crook of my arm in the muscle that runs on top of the arm (the back of the hand side of the arm). I play a draw with a slightly closed club face and an inside to out swing. My first move back is a push back with the lead arm and a slight float load at the top.

I'm not sure about the release but I think I might be swinging to far out to the right and not allowing the lead arm to release and turn over soon enough. I think this might be the cause of the pain I'm having. The pain on the top of my arm is bad enough that I've had to take some time off. When I'm playing it bothers me the most as I start my back swing. I've tried one of those elbow braces designed for tennis elbow but it doesn't help.

I'm going to see a doctor if it doesn't clear up in a couple of weeks. Is there anything I can do with my swing that might prevent this injury from happening again?

I get left elbow pain, too. Mine is probably a result of my severely bent left arm, over swing, lack of extensor action, and the violent straightening of my left arm on the downswing.

Location of my golf related pain:

Right oblique (I blame puttmad for telling me about right side compression:))
Lower stomach muscles
Left elbow
Inner right triceps (I pull and push)
Gluteous maximus
Right Latissimus dorsi

Oft' times my ego.
Golf is a whole body workout.

I do tend to let my left arm bend a little more than I should at the top. I never thought about that being the cause of the pain (going back to straight at the bottom).

cw,
The pain may be due to not allowing the left arm to bend early enough on the follow through...
Think of how your right arm bends on the backswing, almost as soon as you start taking the club back.... you must allow your left arm to bend accordingly on the follow thro, to de-stress the elbow......

When i had golfer's elbow i found some physio web sites who suggested doing wrist curls and reverse wrist curls. I did them every day for a week with a lightish weight until i felt the burn in the wrist. This cleared up the pain almost instantly. I'd see your doctor and get his advice but thought i'd let you know what worked for me!
