Eliminating the left side

Out of curiosity, why do players always speak of eliminating the left side when they discuss taking one side of the course out of play? I never hear of people being advised to elimitate the right side of the course with a draw. Is a draw really that much more temperamental than a fade, or is it an idea that simply stuck around because of players like Nicklaus and Hogan?

Fades sit in fairways and on greens.

And I think a lot of good players have really battled a hook.

Once you've hit hooks that are more like circles for a while you never really want to hit one ever again.

...

And I think that if you feel like you're always fighting a hook it stops you from being able to be aggressive. If I feel like I can swing as hard as I want and never have the face really get closed enough to hook it....well....it's a good thing.

Yeah, I like that. When a fade hits the ground, you're almost done. When a hook hits the ground, the fun is just begining.

Pulls and hooks are much more destructive shots than blocks and slices.

You've never seen me hit a push-cut[:I]. Hey, you get enough speed and spin on it, it... never... comes... down!
