Experiment with new irons...

I picked up a set of Hogan Apex irons that have much less offset than my Mizuno Mx-23s.

I haven't had the lofts and lies checked yet but I am hitting these irons 20* left in a dead pull...or draw pull.

I would rotate back and forth with the 9 iron. Mx 23 would be straight with slight draw (as in soft draw pattern result). The Apex was way off.

I know I need to have them checked out but I feel like the lack of offset might be the difference.

How would you play an iron with very little offset vs. one that has more?

Get a club that fits you and your swing. If you do not feel your swing is good enough, create a club to expedite the adventure. The last part is a quote by me. Good luck!:)

The different offset requires a different ball position for the same ball flight due to the D-plane. I knew this before but i didn't know the science behind it.

Whenever you get a new set of irons; you almost always have to re-learn ball position due to COG locations in certain irons and also offset.

Sooooo.....

Would I expect the ball position to be more forward or more back?

As brian explained in the d-plane thread, more offset clubs need to be "hit down more" than clubs with less offset so with less offset clubs the more you move the ball up the less down you are going to hit it in most cases
