Today I was thinking about making sure that my divots came after I hit the ball, and I noticed when I was taking a practice swing at an imaginary ball that the divot was in the correct spot. As soon as I tried to hit a real ball, I couldn't do it. I consistently hit slightly behind the ball. When I try to hit a ball, my body freezes and I lose the dynamism needed to play consistently. I figure that the problem is in my head, but can anyone suggest something to help me past this fear of hitting the ball?

As Ben Doyle would say: Keep your eyes on the inside aft quadrant of the ball and your Mind's Eye in on your hands.

Thus, make sure you AIM your HANDS a few inches forward of the ball. A great drill is to head over to the bunker and draw a line in the sand. With your 8 iron (or wedge) make small pitching strokes and take a divot just in front of that line. Do this over and over and then make longer strokes and progress to the mid irons.

Jim's 2-ball drill will also be helpful for you.

rp,
Have you tried looking at the front of the golf ball? This often helps me to make the contact that I am looking for. Give it a try.
