Fatigue during a round....

Well, today was the day to see if all the improvements on the range during the last week would produce a better game on the course.

First 7 holes I played really well. Was like 4 over...and this is for a 25 handicapper. I was estatic.

Then, old man's disease caught up with me. Since aging unto the late 40's, no matter what time I go to bed, I get nights where I get 3-4 hours of sleep and then I am awake...for the rest of the night. I know a number of guys, my age or older ,that deal with this. Last night, went to bed around 12am and woke up at 3am. Couldn't get back to sleep for nothing. Tee time was 11am. Needless to say, after about 7-8 holes, my energy went away and my beautiful swing became a struggle. I am in good, physical shape. This never happens unless I get a poor night's sleep before a round.

For whatever reason it happens....what do some of you do when you find yourself physically zapped during a round????

Also...if any of you have old fart's disease...besides drugs, how do you deal with it?

You need to stay hydrated during the round and drink plenty of water the night before you golf and in the morning just prior to your round.

Also have snacks such as fruits and nuts and consume them every 3 to 4 holes. This should help keep the energy level more conistent through the round.

do you drink a lot of sodas (caffeine), smoke, what kind of food do you eat, refined sugars in candy bars, do you on a regular basis consume more then 2 beers etc.......
any or all of the above can cause what you are talking about in regards to not being able to sleep.
and ED gave some good advice, too often people go for a jolt in the morning before the round by having a candy bar, a soda, etc..... but the crash after quickly sets in and boom, they are done. eat some healthy stuff while you are playing and you dont have that crash

You might have sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea wake up at night and do not know why they wake up so much. I do not know you, but if you are over weight, and if you espeicially have a short thick neck, you might have sleep apnea. This can cause excesssive daytime sleepiness. This disease can be quite serious, you might let your doctor know about your sleep.

I know someone who, for 20 or so years...was getting the equivalent of about 3 hours of sleep per every 8 hours she was "out". She'd be out for a normal 8 hours during the night or w/e....but the quality sleep wasn't there.

Needless to say she was a wreck.

I've always slept well....

Just lately, I wake up and can't get back to sleep. This happens a couple times a week.

I know a number of guys in their late 40's...or early 50's that said they go through the same thing...and never did before that age. Throughout my life, I've heard of people experiencing the same thing. This can really be a round killer.

I don't eat crap on the course (or before). I eat fairly healthy.

Just wondering...for whatever reason....how do you get through a round if you happen to run out of gas. What do you focus on. Seems like everything goes to hell when that happens.

Thanks Ed

Energy was not the problem. Severe fatigue from lack of sleep was. I ate a decent breakfast....3 apples and a granola bar during the round. Could not recover.

The swing was great until that point. I just couldn;t get it back

to have sustained energy you need a mixture of simple carbs, the apple, complex carbs, the gronola bar, some fat which you had very little of, and some protein which is imporant for brain function and you had very little of that. You mostly had simple carbs in the apple, which you had three of so that is loading up, and then you crashed

Was she hot? That's the kind of chick you cut out of the herd. Prey on the vulnerable like buzzard on injured oppossum.
