my knowledge of golf course design is based on all the books that everyone else has read in the last 10 years....if you told me that san francisco golf club was designed and built by Suzuki Ichiro, would i like it as much as i do?.....great question....
but for what it's worth, my three favorite golf courses (that i have played) are san francisco gc (tillinghast), oakland hills cc (ross and trent jones sr.) and cypress point club (mackenzie and hunter).....
if this makes me a "golden age" lover then so be it.........
there is nothing that compares to standing on 10 tee at SFGC and looking down that beautiful stretch of fairway and those awesome fairway bunkers.....that sight is unmatched in my humble, basically underinformed opinion
