First post and help with swing

Hello folks, i have been lurking around for a few weeks now after having found this site and have summed up the courage for my first post. I have been absolutely amazed at the wealth of knowledge on this site, and Brian's videos. I have purchased COFF and NHA2. In general, i feel like i swing ok, and my goal is to just gain consistancy (and maybe one day shoot under par) but i feel like another set of eyes would be helpful.

Here are two videos from today at the range with a 9 iron:

Nice ball flight, slight draw, 140 yds

YouTube - DTL 9i Rope 102310.avi

Shank

YouTube - DTL 9i Shank 102310

I added the shank video more to try to understand what is going wrong? I dont know exactly what to look for.
My normal shot is a slight draw, the shank shows up maybe once per round and maybe 1 out of every 3 buckets on the range.

Having purchased COFF and NHA2, would i benefit more from another video based on what you see here.

Thanks in advance fo rany tips.

Has anything clicked with NHA? You swing pretty far inside out while also working the face back open from a pretty shut position at the top. Definately could lead to some shanks.

Thanks for the reply guys. I wasnt sure about posting the sh@#$ video, dont want my bad karma to rub off.

Kevin, i kind of thought i was to far inside to out with my path, thanks for confirming. Ill work on the up the wall, down the wall drill some more, but my initial results were pretty poor. Hooks or worse. Would i benefit from another video?

Trust me, you will benefit from all of Brian's videos. A lot of valuable info there, even if you don't immediately apply it to your swing. You will probably notice that you eventually incorporate different ideas from each pattern.

Specifically, NHA is the way to go for swinging too far inside out. Also do some searching on the site. I'm sure there is a Manzella top ten list around on that subject. Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I spent some time at the range and on the course yesterday and really could not perform the up the wall drill without major issues. Hosel rockets mostly. Anyway i did work on hands more up than in without too much thought to the up the wall feeling, a little twistaway and really focused on the COFF divot drill. On the downswing i would feel my left wrist really pointing down and towards my left foot. The result here was pretty good. Straightish Ball flight and good distance. I would catagorize these swing changes as real improvements over my old swing. Great site and great videos/info. Thanks

So I have been really working on reducing the inside takeaway, also i believe i was over plane on the downswing, so working on right shoulder to the right hip drill seems to be helping on that issue.

Any recommendations on what Kevin noted regarding the shut position at the top?

Thanks eveyone.

@peterjthomps .... You seem to have a decent golfswing (notwithstanding shanks) ... have you sought out any instruction for your golfswing mechanics?

When you get to a certain point in your golfswing, tips don't help because you need hands-on instruction to isolate swing problems. IOW, you must cease with homemade swing development and go the next step for expert analysis.

If you've been reading this fine forum, you should realize that our BrianM can provide great instruction .. and using TrackMan to really identify swing power leaks. However, making swing changes requires an outside assessment from a qualified instructor.

I think your swing is at that point of advancing development. Have you played a higher level of baseball by any chance..??

Looked to me on the shank that you moved out over the ball several inches. That definitley makes me shank the ball.

@SteveT - you nailed it, totally homemade swing. I have had 2 lessons my whole life, neither were fruitful. I agree with you that to get any better will require professional help and would love to find a way to get down to La to see Brian, however, i dont think i can work that in with my current schedule. Are there any GTE certified instructors in the DC area? Or Trackman facilities near DC?

I think Damon Lucas is somewhat close to you.
