Fix the Face or the Path?

I have questions regarding improving ball-flight. Specifically whether to change the face or adjust the path. I'm interested to learn more about the idea of fixing the face for slicers and the path for hookers. Would this apply for a hooker who had a shut clubface at top of backswing?

I think generally if you can get a hooker to swing more left they'll adjust the clubface pretty easily. However, if the face is super duper shut with a really strong grip, a grip adjustment may need to be made so that they don't have to work under the sweetspot too much to keep the face square.

I like holeouts answer but in the extreme case of shut club, i like to see why its shut and maybe work on both things at the same time.
 
Is there any data from Trackman research that shows evidence for changing face vs. path? In my experience without technology it seems like slicers do better with fixing the face first (strong pulls that go further) and hookers do better with changing path (maybe an inside-square-inside path reduces clubface rotation?) Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing ideas on fixing a hook that didn't involve a shut clubface at the top of backswing. Thanks!

My idea that a hook that didnt have a shut face is you could do one of two things. Depending on how bad the flip was to hook, you could just fix the path and by virtue of that it might hold off the face a little longer. Or if it was a really hosel leading leak hook, fix the face and make it go really left first and then chip away at the under path and the flip to hold the ball more on line.

What is a "hosel leading leak hook"? Is it when the clubface goes from open to shut very quickly through impact?

Do you want forward shaft lean with you driver?
