Well, I'll be posting a new video soon, but for those of you that saw my last one, here is an update and a question...
First I have been working to fix that overrotation of the clubface going back / handsy takeaway. Brian's step on the right foot, combined with the feel of the Hogan waggle has really helped. Feels really funny (and really shut, hence I was chunking it for a while until I have started getting used to the new feeling), but the ball doesn't lie. As a bonus, this has helped my overswinging / lifting at the top issue. Because I no-longer feel the rotate open then lift scenario, the club simply feels more like it swings all the way back to the top.
Having a real problem with the flat left wrist though. Unless I severely weaken my grip, I can't get the wrist flat and have a square clubface (aligning with the left arm) at the top. It's horribly shut. In the current setup I am getting more of the anatomical flat scenario (same amount of bend as if you just make a fist with the left hand), with clubface dead square. Should I be worried about this? Should I just cope with the shut at the top position in favor of the pure flat left wrist. I'm looking to hit draws at the moment, so my understanding from "Soft Draw" is that the anatomical is what we want.
Lastly, I really have been trying to keep my right arm bend both sooner into the downswing and more towards impact. Sure it straightens out, but I want to get into more of a sam snead / david toms impact alignment with the right elbow more to the side. This has been helping me get the left shoulder back, right shoulder down, and the club more on plane (heck, when I do it in the mirror for practice, it looks like the club almost returns to the address line ). I think this will really help me eliminate my shanking episodes, which I determined was the club moving in-out so much (dang you "swing out to right field instruction!!! ) that the clubface was basically a full clubface width outside the target line. My right arm was loosing connection and pushing the club off plane. That's my analysis anyways.
I'll post video soon. Really curious to see if all this mirror work is paying off in form, as it is in my ball striking.
Best news is I am starting to basically just step up to the ball, aim, waggle, and go. I don't have that wierd takeaway fanning sensation to deal with anymore!
