Brian,

My swing has been very upright for a long time and way too steep. Any drills/thoughts to help flatten out my path?

Thanks.

EriK;

I'm sure Brian will comment but it depends on "why" your swing is so upright. One easy way is to not feel as though you 'lift' the club with your shoulders to the top. If you elevate the club ONLY by bending your right arm to bring the club to the top, your swing should not be as upright looking. Although this will just be appearance....you could still swing on an upright plane but just not have your hands in a high position at the top.

I guess I could answer better if I knew if you have "high hands" or just an upright/steep plane.

Plane lasers....get some and find out where the plane really is. Only the downswing plane really matters HOWEVER you have to have a backswing plane that gets you in the easiest position to drive downplane on the downswing. LOL that is a lot of "plane."

For instance my backswing plane is a little "outside" the line when tracing with a laser but thats ok because FOR ME it puts me in the easiest position to drive the right shoulder downplane.

Eric,

I would recommend you make swings in a mirror. That way your look and feel can become real for you. Swing the left and right hand back individually and together so that they are as high as and in front of your right shoulder.

Get one of those 'noodle' thingys they play with in a pool.

Set it up so that it is on the target line, behind the ball, about six inches back and six inches high.

Swing UNDER it.

thanks fellas. The last time I was on video, you really didn't see my left arm being draped across my chest when I was at the top. I guess my arms were going higher up than my turn dictated. In that case, I was probably lifting the club a bit. I had a homemade inside approach, but I think I was using it incorrectly for a while. I'll go back to that again and perhaps invest in some plane lasers.

Thanks again...

Jim,

What do you mean by plane lasers? Is this something I can make myself or is this a training aid worth buying? Also, what do you think of the Tic-Tac training aid?

Thanks.

i can't for the life of me remember the site but there is one where you can get some for about $20 plus shipping. Butch Harmon sells some too but his are like $80.

If you check out chuckevans site there is a "plane" video on his home page that demonstrates "tracing a straight plane line" with two flashlights (back to back).

As for the tic-tac it is great for monitoring a FLW. Brian used it on me to get rid of my "fudged swivel" I have my experiences with the tac-tic in the training aid section on lynn's forum

Erick...pick a club to practice, lets say 5 iron.

Setup with a ball and that 5 iron so that you are in your setup position and ready to swing and strike the ball.

Now get out of your setup and put down a long piece of something (string, ruler, yardstick, etc) directly IN LINE with the ball. This is your "plane line."

Now, set back up to the ball except you are going to be using your flashlights. The drill is to point one end of the flashlights at the line ALWAYS unless you are parallel to it.

So the light will be shining at the plane line at setup, during the takeaway until the flashlight is parallel to the plane line in the popular "toe up half way back" position.

Then you will begin to raise the club up through the rest of your backswing and your goal is to get the other end of that flashlight to, again, point at the plane line until you get to parallel.

HOWEVER

if you DON'T get to parallel the flashlight should still be pointing at an "extension" of the plane line ok?

Once you begin your downswing you will again use the one end of the laser to trace the plane line all the way to impact, both arms straight and then about the point follow through and swivel the other end of that flashlight should be pointing at the line.

This is how you trace a straight plane line.

Thanks again, Jim. Is this a concept that TGM stresses as well? I've seen the plane laser/flashlight idea before but I wasn't sure how to use it.
