Flip & Grip

How much will a proper grip influence a proper flat wrist at impact. I think I have a weak grip and I struggle badly with a flip. I have been experimenting statically getting my pad on my left wrist more on top of the club and it seems that this may help eradicate the flip. Does this sound probable or am I grasping at straws? I have purchased "confessions of a former flipper" and I cannot keep my left wrist flat at all. However I took a look at my grip.......... and one of Brians instructional papers regarding the grip, and my grip is weak and the pad on my left wrist is on the left side of the grip. Would a grip change make a great difference in my quest for a flat wrist at impact?

It has amazed many TGMers that in fixing clubfaces of slicers, I can then fix the flip faster.

It's easy really.

The behavior that is rewarded is the behavior you get. :)!

I've tried the stronger grip in the past and I tend to hit the ball left a lot. The clubface closes down very quickly. Maybe my hands are too active. Any drills to help?

also, with a too weak grip it is almost impossible to groove the proper path, unless you want to hit it OB right all day. Would you like to go in detail about your swing?

and btw, if you are looking to improve your knowledge of the golf swing, you have come to the right place. out of the ten or so golf sites I visit, I trust the info here head and shoulders above the rest.

My swing...........well at the moment I am a 8 handicap. My swing is a little inside to start with and then I have a slight over the top move on the downswing. It usually results in a slight pull. I definately flip the club(I've seen the ugliness on video). I am working on getting rid of the "inside move",but I've noticed that my grip is a little weak. My misses are usually pushes to the right. I think you are correct that "path" is a big part of my problem. I've purchased the flipper video, but there is no reference to path. Any drills or ideas?

clubhead cover on the ground one foot in front and four inches inside of the ball, use a six iron. That will work on extension through the shot. As far as flat backswing, ask someone else cause I struggle with that as well

Brian's never hook again video might be the best way to look at that. I think goes over the 'up the wall, down the wall' procedure which, I think, is somewhat of an upright swing as opposed to a flat swing with might generate a hook.

Read Brian's article "never slice again"

you sound like you could really use some 'twist away'

Chances are your weak grip leads you to 'roll inside' rather than going 'up the plane' and maintaining a flat left wrist

Absolutely!

Many Flippers, flip to square the face.

You will HAVE TO flip less if you have a better grip.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought the 'Manzella neutral grip" is what most would refer to as a really weak grip. I am fine with it now, but when you first had me try it, it was FORE RIGHT! Then I learned to swivel with a slightly arched left wrist (and hence my forum alias) and mashed it. I think it is MUCH easier to achieve and maintain a flat left wrist with a weak grip. No way YOUR grip is strong in your signature and your left wrist is WAY flat.
