Jerry,
I know where you are coming from. I am still a flipper. But I am flipping much less lately because I have really been trying to get the stuff that Brian talks about in 'Confessions.' The things he says in that video are really incredibly significant to me, and you because we flip. You really need to just watch it over and over and over and over again until something clicks. Try looking at 1 thing each time you watch it: How Brian moves his hips, how he moves his shoulders, how his hands move, what the clubhead does, what the clubface does. Try to feel what he is doing with his body.
One thing that might help is an idea from Mike Hebron: "Nobody flips their hands." He says that the hands flip because you 'run out of right arm' on the downswing. I think this might have something to do with what Brian says about hitting the ball better with the flip.
When I get happy with my right arm at the top and and expand that angle, if I do not flip my hands I will either chunk the ground way behind the ball, totally top the ball (clubhead is going up), or if I can get the sweet spot to the ball I will hit it solid.....but it is either a solid slice or a solid straight push. So it is sort of like an unconscious self defense because my brain can sense that something needs to happen just to hit the ball. So I do hit it better when I flip because it is the only way I will actually hit the ball when my right arm is straight and right forearm is high coming into the ball.
One of the best things from the video that helps me is when Brian says "I'm just holdin on, and I'm workin on my pivot" followed by a nice 'MASH'.
