Flying Elbow causes a hook?

I just finished playing in a three day stroke play tournament. Midway through the second round my old nemesis the hook showed up. It seems to happen when I fly my right elbow at the top of the backswing. Any ideas why this happens?? Thanks

All things equal a flying right elbow would be more likely to cause a slice. If the swing is long enough you would have time to self correct the flamingly open and under shaft coming down with a flippy hook.

Makes sense. I have tried it (like everyone) but it doesn't work at all for me.

Does tucked in right elbow promote a hook? Must do I suppose - inside out right?

Dealing with this exact same issue at the moment. And it does feel like a flippy garbage hook down at the bottom. On swings where I deliberately try to smooth it out and slow things down I get a nice draw but the ball has no heat behind it. Hmm...so this is creating a clubface problem?

Arent you like 6'5"?

Not being an impact position, it's hard to tell what the flying elbow causes. For Miller Barber, Jack Nicklaus, among others, it seemed to cause long straight shots.
