Footwork

After seeing my swing, one of the many things I'm working on is footwork. Do you guys work on this or should it just come "naturally" with a good backswing/downswing?

I was going to PM Kevin this but I'll just post it here:

Kevin, I've watched your swing on youtube like a million times and I noticed you have really good footwork. Have you worked on this or is it "natural"? It looks like you maybe roll your left foot in on the backswing and roll your right in on the downswing? I'm really going to work on keeping my right foot down more.

I like to preset my feet INTO the ground before I take it back. Especially the back foot. Then I concentrate on not spinning the lead foot on the downswing which I was notorious for. This has helped my balance immensely. And a lot of other good things seemed to have spawned from it. Playing the best golf I have played in years.

I know what you mean as I'm trying this as well. Flexing my knees more, pressing down into the ground to give me a more athletic feeling at setup. I read a lot about "using the ground" and my old swing wasn't using an inch of the ground, or so it seemed.

I hear ya. My old swing wasn't using the ground either and I was caught trying to manipulate my arms/hands constantly. Now I feel so much more compact and tight and I don't "try" to do anything. It just feels like I am leveraging the ground better and I have something to swing against (if that makes sense). Ultimately, I think it has really helped my sequencing. Great success on the range with this and I am slowly but surely getting it out to the course with nice results.
