Hi Guys,

Anyone heard of Gerry Hogan? Been striking the ball like crap till i came across his book - The Hogan Manual of Human Performance - which is out of print.

He advocates one main drill/downswing trigger which is to do a double handed karate chop at the inside aft quadrant of the ball. Seems very much like TGM to me.

Apparently the dude hits his 6 iron 190yds and he is an old, unathletic guy. His webby is www.hogangolf.com.

Give me your opinions!

Justin

First post..... Welcome.

Sounds like a great image (and drill) if you understand rotation. Rotation point, or mirror point.

I have his book and video. His main premise is a golfer must fight the arms natural tendency as it is swung across the body to turn over. He advocates "showing God the time" on your wristwatch into the backswing, and keep the watch facing up as far into the downswing as possible until nature's forces cause release. I found them very unique and hit some great shots with this method. TGM taught me why it worked.

This Hogan is an Aussie. NOT TGM, just one pattern that can come from the book. He does not advocate that you can control your hands however and why he never had a real follow up to his famous "The Challenge". The video has some great footage worth watching within a TGM referance frame.

Buddy of mine studied under him and its not bad stuff but this Hogan never understood Homers work fully and just picked up bits of it that he could understand and teach.

The whole premise of his book, and he says as much, is you control the whole motion of the golf swing with your hands, specifially your intent. Dante, Norwood, and Gery Hogan may not have studied and learned the golfing machine. Homer could have learned from them. He did't just one night have a vision. Homer borrowed, copied, and stole as well as create and interpret.

Golf WAS played for hundreds of years before TGM, and not always badly. Part of TGM charm, a big part, is it is soooo RETRO!;)
