Getting on my left side early

I hate it. I do it and it saps all the speed. I straighten my left leg way early and it sucks. Some day I will conquer it. That's my rant.

David,
I remember reading Ian Woosnam's autobiography a few years back and he mentioned that one of the major faults for tour pros is just that - onto the left side too early. So at the very least you're in some exalted company!
It is annoying though, isn't it, and I'm sure as the drag gets sucked out of your swing it'll go away...

It's awesome when it happens. I feel the clubhead being left way behind and then I just drag an open face into the ball. Great feeling.

@dschultz .... what are your hips doing when you prematurely extend your left leg? Where are they oriented... closed, parallel, open?

The left leg cannot straighten itself unless the hip mass has been sufficiently rotated, and if your hips have not rotated enough you are hitting off your rear right foot

Don't know. I haven't recorded it and it happens way too fast to tell. It's an issue of letting my left leg retain some flex and let my arms and hands fire through. I know what it is, I'm just working on it and felt like venting. I can hit balls off my left leg only and do the same thing.

Yea, big time. It's some tough work to stop the madness of "pivot powered arm speed" whatever the hell they call it. When things go well and my legs just react, I get a Byron Nelson kind of knee move it looks like. This:

If I don't, it's like Sam Snead with a hangover and a peg leg. This might be the bane of my golf swing for a while.

Dschultz, if it was me, I would incorporate a slight lifting of the left foot (off the ground), if only for a moment, as you take the club back. It would get your lower body in a little better position to start your DS. As it is, you've got a touch of reverse hips and you have no choice but to fall immediately onto your left leg.
