Golf season's comin! (or here)

Thought I should start a place where we can talk about how we've been playin.

...

SO! Let's start!!!!

...

Well....we still have snow here....so this is the best I can do...

Today I was pitching and chipping in my front yard....over half-melted snow banks. And yes- snow does seem to react similar to sand....hit behind er a bit.

Was chippin it pretty well....felt good to get the club into some grass FINALLY.

You guys didn't buy this (even with a catchy title ;)) so I'll start.

...

First round today.

Shot 75.

39/36.

Felt pretty damn good.

Had a triple on the front (hooked on into the worst place possible on a par 3) and one other bogey on the front....only one bogey on the back.

All in all a good start.....tied my pers. best first time out.....lots of study this winter (and SOME work)....PROPS....to TGM. :)

I coulda shot better too if I had figured out my Plane earlier.....and if I didn't just bomb it off every hole (didn't really strategize....just wanted to hit bombs....and only driving it so-so on the front- draws/hooks).

Good times....

Can't wait for tomorrow.

Congratulations!

We are in the Great White North (Canada), but due to great Spring consitions, our club has already been open for a month. havn't counted how many rounds I have played, but it must be about 15 or so. Scoring was initially not too good, but won low gross (B-Flight) with a 76 yesterday. My low round of the season, so far.

Not really working on TGM methods, except for chiping where I am trying hard to keep a flat wrist and to hit down on the ball Seems to be working well.

OK Birdie-Man - I tried to help your thread, but no takers. Maybe most of the guys here just analyse golf swings and don't actually play ;)

I shot a 73 today in windy conditions with gusts hitting 25 mph according to the weather reports. I was pleased with my drives, iron play and punch shots. Putting could have been better. On the front 9, I had 3 putts lip out, so I had the potential to go under par if some of these putts would have dropped.

Brian's Flipper video and Building Blocks video are sources of great info.

I am officially jealous. I have Building Blocks and Flipper, work on my swing constantly and you guessed it....I have gotten worse. The deal is I know what needs to be done and I play great golf for a few holes and then blowup holes. I have been very erratic this season. My range has been 77 - 97. I think I'm a head case!!!

I know I am a better player and have the "ability" to hit the ball better, I just need to start putting it together in a more consistent manner.

It will come, I probably just need to relax and enjoy the process.

Oh ya....you'll get screwed up for a while when you try to change everything.

But then you get better.

I always try to think of the three basic things you need to control: face (Flat lwrist), head (lag/hit down), shaft (plane).

There's definitely other stuff....Extensor Action, Axis Tilt (thought those prolly fall under 'clubHEAD'), etc.....

The three things are a good starting point though. Gets you back to reality.

make sure that set up is spot on, maybe something about it changes because from 77-97 is a little bit big of a gap, if you can shoot 77 then you should almost always be under 90

My range has been 77 to 97. I shot 97 once and it was the first time over 90 in about a year and a half. An absolutely horrible day with 39 putts and several poor decisions.

My point is....I feel like I have acquired all of this knowledge of the golf swing and it has been slower than expected in translating into scores. At the end of last season I was breaking 80 about 75% of the time...about 50% in tournaments and I fully expected to come out this season ripping it up and I haven't, a couple of good rounds but mostly around 82-83. I'll play great for 7 or 8 holes...lose it and kind of find it again at the end of the round.

It will turn around though, I just need to enjoy the good stuff more.

88..fighting pulls still. My chipping is better, but yipping putts now. I need to work on my axis tilt still, but I tend to hit them thin this way. I need to play more than once every two months. I expect to shoot in the seventies, but i have way to many blowup holes to do that. I can stick it 3 feet with a 3 iron one hole and miss a green with a sand wedge the next. Welcome to my world. :)

My index is about 8 and I have been playing to it this season, so far. BUT, this past week, the wheels fell off! I started shanking!

First happened one cold morning - I hit a bucket of balls - first dozen or so went fine, then the shanking started (irons only)! I went out and played in the league - shot 84 despite many shanks! Next time out was another league - I almost missed my tee time so teed off with no practice. I shot 94 - worst score in about 7 years! But, I parred 3 of 4 last holes and hit some decent irons by really slowing down swing and making a full shoulder turn.

Today, I hit a small bucket Very carefully!. I shanked two balls, but rest were OK, but a bit tentative. Went out and played in our money pool games - Shot 37 on first nine, but 41 on back mainly due to poor driving (have a strain in right shoulder and Advils must have worn off :( ) Any way, my partner played well on back and we tied for first and took 1/2 the pool! Only shanked one, but managed to get up& down out of the hay and get a net birdy!

Tomorrow will be another interesting day!

BTW, the shanking seems to be caused by club coming through hosel first - face is wide open - club seems to be left behind in swing. Cure has been to swing back really slowly with closed face and makes sure I get to where I am looking down over left shoulder - Not pretty, but I hit many greens using this somewhat awkward backswing.
