Good question...
I'm very curious, in order to get golf machine certification, do the people have to pass a playing test??
When Ben Doyle started my Authorized Instructor program in 1987, The Golfing Machine Company still operated under the Homer Kelley principle that a GSED or GSEM could "authorize" a GSEB.
Ben Doyle would NOT Authorize you if you couldn't demonstrate at a very high level.
In fact, David Laville, who did a very good job on his AI written test, failed to pass Ben Doyle's DEMONSTRATION test. Sally later authorized Dave.
Now days, that part of the AI program is run by Joe Daniels, and there is no playing or demonstration phase.
It should also be noted, that Homer didn't require it, and most AI's who authorized other AI's did not have a "ball hitting" or playing test involved.
I like it though.
I think it should be a demonstration, playing and LIVE TEACHING test.
That's what I do with my teachers.
