Fellas:
I had a 'decent' round the other day. For the first time ever I made par on three straight holes and I made par one more time (a total of 4 for the 18 holes) and I would have made another par put I missed a short putt.
My main problem was hitting thin. Man oh man I could not fix the problem. I hit MAYBE two solid iron shots all day. But because every shot was basically low and fairly straight I could get on the green and have a chance to save bogey. I have been working on my takeaway lately. For years I have been taking the club too far to the inside and rolling the face open-a death move if there ever was one in golf. On the two shots that I did feel that I hit solid, I had to make a concerted effort to 'squat' down. Maybe I was coming out of my posture more than originally thought. I was at the range the other day and my ball striking was fine.
It could be balance issue. Sometimes I practice barefoot and I played a round in sneakers and maybe wearing those new shoes was causing some balance problems. I don't think I was overswinging, but I didn't feel connected and stabilized with the ground like I normally do.
So does anyone have any good drills for the takeaway? And what about me hitting thin? Perhaps that was just an aberration. It was never that bad before.
thanks,
Erik
