Scott Verplank = 106mph of clubhead speed, 158mph of ball speed, 262 yards of carry AND 40 YARDS OF ROLL.

I like watching the golf channel because it really helps show how not everyone hits it as far as you think. However Andres Romero 120mph clubhead speed and 315 yard carry is impressive.

Move to north texas. 40 yds of roll is nothing around here. My tee shot distance has gone way way up since I moved from Atlanta.

The only time we get 40 yds of roll around here is when we hit the cartpath.

There's a course in my hometown of Syracuse where you can almost drive 500 yard par 5's. Of course, they are like hitting off a cliff.

I was walking around the course today. I'm pretty sure what the Zurich is calling rough is what I typically play as fairways around here. And yes, the players are getting a good bit of roll on the fairways.

No joke. Here in Texas the roll can be rediculous. 346 yard par 4, I hit driver (usually about 240-250 carry for me) and it catches a SLIGHT downslope and rolls all the way to pin high, just right of the green. Couldn't believe it.

Played a corporate tournament the other day (placed 4th... argghh... one shot from placing second really hurts when the entire team missed a 5 foot putt on a par 3.. doh!). Hit a drive that measured and honest 310 on a par 5, then 4 iron to 20 feet and a teammate made the putt. I don't know how that drive went 310... but I'll take it! Thank you Texas!

Yea, that is a joke. There was a student of mine that told me when he went to D1 regionals a few years ago in florida that everyone down south hit it as far as he did and he really could move it. I didn't believe him. The next year, regionals was up at Yale and he said he hit it 40 yards past the same kids that could keep up with him down south.

After we got his ball flight flatter, he was past them on both conditions.
