He started out as a 7-year old dragging mops up hills at Smithtown Landing Golf Club on Long Island, in Mike Hebron's junior class. He became a Head Golf Professional and Golf School Director at 21 years old. Last Friday, he became the youngest winner ever of a prestigious award.
Looking toward teaching at even at an early age, he devoured every golf book he could get his hands on. Looking for scientific truth instead of golf theory, he looked first in Homer Kelley's The Golfing Machine, a book he owned before his first lesson. Looking to learn from the best, he went to Carmel, California to see Ben Doyle, and became one of "Ben's Boys" and became the youngest GSED the teaching organization ever had. Never resting on his early success the owner of his own golf school, he made friends with a 17-year older, similar pedigreed Italian fellow from New Orleans. With help from a group of other teachers looking for truths in the swing, he left The Golfing Machine to found The Golf Research Corporation, and help start Project 1.68. The group has turned over every stone they could find, eventually finding a pot of gold of information in the academic golf researchers, PHDs who studied the swing, high-end swing measurement devices, especially Doppler radar technology.
At 33 years old, he has become one of golf most knowledgeable instructors, and soon to be well known across the globe. He has hosted international conferences, and produced numerous videos and DVDs. He is talented large group presenter and operates his own high traffic golf website.
The 2012 PGA of America Met Section Teacher of the Year—Michael Jacobs, of Rock Hill Golf and Country Club, Manorville, New York.
