I need a new wedge....

Looking at a Cleveland 54 Gunmetal.....these suckers rust? Or does the finish just wear off? (i.e. in the sweetspot)

With mine, I wore off the finish in the sweetspots and then it started rusting where the finish was gone.

I hate the look of rust also. I bought the Cleveland RTG wedges and I just use steel wool on them from time to time and they look excellent. They don't even look rusty. Just a nice dull finish.

I have had my Mizuno gunmetal wedges for 3 years & played extensively with them. Basically not a sign of rust althoug they display that nice "I've been around" patina. They got a bit rusty ONCE when I left the clubs wet in a confined space (bag with cover on) for some time. Wiped them with a wet cloth and they got the finish back. Minus the rust.

Guess its a matter of climate - to some extent. I mean cars Hawaii that are not kept indoors at night get rusty roofs(!).

I don't see a problem. Except if you live in Hawaii and leave the clubs in the garden for a while. ;)

I can't remember who told me this, but I believe some wedges are supposed to rust. The idea is when a Tour player opens the face and it's very sunny outside, they don't want to be looking at a bright and shiny metal surface at address.

Oh ya....they're def. supposed to rust. I have one right now (it's worn out tho now) and I like the dull finish....but I don't like the rust and lack of durabilty (I think they wear out faster).

I really like this RAC Satin 54 I bought.

to keep a gun metal wedge from rusting, you would have to wipe it down with a oil rag after every round and practice session.

Bah too much work for this lazy guy. My clubs are always caked as grass as it is.....clean em with a tee when I need to lol.
