Hands education question...

I seem to have difficulty asking the right questions so I'll try real hard....

I use the mighty book as a reference, in other words I try a feel at the range and then look it up in the book where it is normally explained very well and simply. I have no problem understanding Homer's words.
So you can use reference in answering this question.

Using a 5-iron I take my normal address and make a good swing I can definitely monitor my hands and "FEEL" the FLW and BFRW and can monitor the lag very effectively.
However if at address I lower my hands and thereby create a flatter shaft angle and make a good swing, the sound of impact is much louder (it feels like the clubface is closing on the ball) and IF I TIME IT RIGHT I get more distance, however I cannot feel the FLW and the BFRW and it FEELS like I am losing lag, in summary I cannot monitor the lag effectively.
Unfortunately I swing my driver/3 wood like this naturally as the angle of the hands at address is more acute due to the length of the shaft. What adjustments are recommended as I HATE hooking the ball.

Are you a Swinger or a Hitter?

I use a pulling left arm AND a driving right forearm. I think that I am a hitter.

MizunoJoe thanks for the great answer, very helpfull. <edit> which mechanic must I look at? </edit>

Homer insists that "feel" must be established from mechanics, not the other way round.

He also stated to stay aware through "Feel". I cannot stress the concept of closing your eyes when you swing. It forces you to pay so much more attention to them. You learn to attach feel to your intention this way.

The mechanics of the entire stroke. And the feel can change, so must be reestablished when the "same" feel fails to produce the correct stroke. And at some point the current feel WILL fail.

There's something in the book about "closed eyes hand education." Don't have time to look for it right now, but I'm pretty sure it's there. :)

matt - I was referring to the book. But I've believed in this concept before I ever openned the front cover.

And it's in 5-0.

It's a shame this section is only two pages of info and 1 of pictures. There's so much more that could be said.
