Haney and Tiger, Done!

Just signed on to read the posts on the split, but don't see anything new! Did you all see the interview the GC did last night with Haney. Haney was in Canada, and stated that he and tiger had been together for 4 years and Tiger knows everything he teaches. He went on to say, Tiger is a smart guy and can be his own teacher, and if he ever needs another set of eyes he (Haney) would always be there for him. He added that all good teachers eventually teach the pupil to teach themselves. He said they'd been together for 130 days/year for the last 3 years.

Looks like you guys were right!

Kind of interesting. A lot of my students don't see me but twice a year. I try to teach the way Haney is describing their relationship so I think there's a possibility too much is being read into it.

Being able to do it on your own is very important IMO. Although at that level it might be a bit more important to have someone.

I think what Haney said was that they won't be working together as much....except for some tuneups.

Could mean a few things if u read into it. I'd say Tiger thinks Haney has taken him as far as he can. (and Haney said something like "Tiger's basically seen everything I've got.") We know Tiger ain't one to stop trying to improve. To me that must mean the "Haney well has dried up."

We'll see what happens tho.

Don't know if it really means anything, but I remember seeing Butch Harmon on TGC say the exact same thing right after he and Tiger parted ways.

Surely if Tiger starts getting off though - he, like anyone else on tour, will need someone to take a look and give some ideas ... wonder who he'll go ask?

Haney and Tiger

Students leave teachers all the time. Sometimes they come back.

In the Haney-Tiger deal, it is really the same thing as the Butch deal, when a talented student does EVERYTHING you ask him or her to, and they don't get the results you told them they would, they either leave or they ought to.

The answer for the teacher is to "just get smarter"—that worked for me for a long time—but, Haney and Butch are less likely to change anything they are doing, cuz the "money is in the bank," and fame is already theirs.

Butch and Hank ain't doing any weekly TV shows, they just don't have the camera presence or the entertainment talent to pull it off. They also would run out of stuff to talk about in a few weeks. Butch can tell a story or two.

What I am trying to do with my career, and what these very successful teachers have done, are so different, it really is apples and oranges.

Haney will re-invent, and make more money, and Tiger will try another one.

This time though, he needs one of the REAL 50 best, but...finding them is something altogether different. ;)
