why do you have a wrap around finish hitting a 9 iron? were you trying to hit it 160? seriously though you look the part with the J. Lindeburgh shirt.

What is your typical miss? So far, i would say go work on your short game and maybe turn out your left foot a hair so you don't roll on your ankle(injury prevention).

Aside from that, I think it needs a little Fred Astaire. It appears to rigid and forced. Check your overall body tension. See if you feel overly tight anywhere.

Downswing seems initiated by unwinding of shoulders. I don't think the kinetic chain is being snapped here. Try to find some of Brian's videos where he covers hip movement.

You need to do the "club hooked in the belt near the left hip" drill and make swings where your arms don't run into the club after impact. Brian can explain it better, and welshdentist has video of him doing it. Look up his posts and you'll see more on it. I can almost guarantee Brian would have you do this drill.

I have always struggled with over the top and not using my hips at start of downswing, i have tried really hard to lead with my hips but obviously i still am not. Ill look up the belt buckle drill. Thanks

u can still have a over the top swing with the belt buckle drill. BY turning your waist doesn't mean you will drop the club automatically in the slot. YOu need to have an axis tilt in the downswing. Fill up the gap on the left side before you can make a downswing.

This is true, jen, but his sequencing is so far off that adding axis tilt alone won't help. You've got to get the sequence right or all the axis tilt in the world won't help you.

To medici:

Take a lofted club (pitching wedge should do) and tuck the clubhead into your belt on your left hip, so that the shaft of the club points straight out in front of your hip, left of where your hands would be at set-up. Take a short iron (9,8, or 7) and hit little 100 yard-ish shots, while avoiding hitting the club on the down- and through-swing. Brian may correct me here, but if you want to hit shots straight, axis tilt will take care of itself.

Let us know how it goes.

Brian, Jim, Kevin, etc. correct me if I'm misleading him!

Here's the drill

And here's another one that's helped me

since when is something beneficial to do in the swing just because it is natural?

Good point.

Also, I just dont think the downswing will be sequenced properly until he learns to use his body on the way back. The arms swing so violently from the start that their momentum actually pulls him out of the ground at the top. From there Tiger Woods would start down with his shoulders.

I want him to get this cuz Ive seen from other threads of his that he's trying real hard.

I just thought since the finish isn't that meaningful since the ball was long gone then why was that so important? Was that really a big deal? Its not like I was saying he had a flip and since he did it naturally it was ok.

I don't agree with those that say the finish isn't a big deal. The finish can tell you a lot about what happend earlier in the swing. His wrap around finish is fake. It is him adding a bunch of body/shoulder turn to his through swing way after the fact, to make up for the lack of body turn at impact. If he were snapping his chain better, then his body/shoulders would be pretty much finished at impact and the club would simply follow.

thefuture...i also understand, and your right.

im going to try and wind up better in the backswing using my shoulders and hips so the bigger muscles are been used..i then am going to start to use my hips on the ds.

i have the privilege of been able to practice everyday with unlimited balls so i should be able to do it.

kevin....so those videos that were kindly posted from jake, they a good place to start?

thanks

They will definately help, but not until you start your backswing with a little pull from your center. But after that, yes, i would think, at least, they will help.
