HDCP gonna drop

I highly suggest anyone struggling with the short game to try and develop some type of a 4x3 system with their wedges. I have a PW, GW, SW, and LW. If you only have 3 that's fine, just do a 3x3. I've been wanting to do this all year but I just literally started making some swings yesterday with it. Just got back from 9 and at the end of the round I started to get a feel for this system. Last 3 holes were tap in par, tap in birdie, tap in birdie. I was sticking my wedges to within 3 feet. It was FUN! I can only imagine how much better I'm gonna get. I know Pelz gets a lot of chit but give it a try.

PS It might help to know that I'm not known for making birdies. Maybe 1 per 9 holes. Definitely not back to back tap ins.

I DUN THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE WILL HAVE 4 WEDGES IN THEIR BAGS.

3x3 or 3x4 takes a lot of time and pretty precise ballstriking to work effectively. if you take that same amount of time and practice with any one of those wedges, you could get comparable results just by "feeling" what difference yardages "feel" like. Hogan didnt have a lob wedge and used his pw for most of his "long pitch" type shots, so ive heard.

All I know is that it works for me. Just got back from another 9 and still had great success. It's definitely putting me in more opportunities for pars/birdies.

4x3 is more popular now because the PW has slowly decreased from 50* to 44* in some cases with super game improvement irons.

its semantics with those clubs anyways. a 45 degree game improvement "PW" doesnt look anything like a wedge you might buy separately. Its still just a nine iron no matter what is stamped on the sole. so in those cases its really just 3x3.

Curtis, I'm with you on this one. I don't agree with Pelz's "swing techniques" but his analysis of the importance of the short game and his theory around an organized approach "4x3 system" were unique and have made him a great influence on the game.

Everyone knew short game was important, but he was able to actually quantify the importance.

the future37, I think there are golfers who are right brain dominent and some are left brain dominent. For some people feel is the way they approach the game, Seve is a great example, other people are more mechanical and a more technical appraoch like Pelz's works better for them.

That's a good point Tball88. The nice thing for me is that I AM a feel player. So when I blend the 4x3 system with some feel I think I'm going to be money. I'm pretty creative with my wedges and this will only give me more options. I went out last night and I was just a few yards closer than a 1/2 GW. Opened my club just a few degrees, took my 1/2 swing and stuck it. Result = birdie. As we all know, it's all about scoring. I don't score with a 5W.

I'm complete opposite, very mechanical player. I have a tendency to oftentimes overanalyze, however, the advantage is when things go south, I can typically correct it pretty quickly.

Most of the time inside 100 yards I don't even look at yardage. I just look at the target and just feel what I need to do. I never had any success with "a 3/8 SW goes 42 yards" type of thinking. I just let my body react.

Let me add, that because of this, I probably have more peaks and valleys (I'm streaky) in my less than full wedge game.

Bunches of ways to do things. I analyze the full swing way too much. I couldn't play a lick if I did the same in my 100 yards and in game.

That was me Coach. Everyone should do yourself a favor and count how many shots you have inside 100 yards. I did this at the beginning of the week and the results were shocking. I've always tracked # of putts but does that really mean anything? Not really. Who cares if I had a 1 putt if it took me 3 shots to get it there after I was inside 100 yards. The math doesn't lie, 64% of my score was inside 100 yards. It was one of the worst rounds of the summer. On some par 4's I had 4 shots inside 100. That's absolutely pathetic and to me not tolerable. This was enough to open my eyes for something different/new. So far so good. Only a few days in and I'm seeing the benefit.
