head movement and across the line at the top

Hi - I have recently revisited this forum after joining ages ago. It's a great place and I have been reading the old threads like mad the last few days! I do not pretend to understand much of the TGM ideas and phrases yet, but do respect a lot of the poster's knowledge on this board from what I have read.

Anyway to my problems. I am a reasonable player off 5 and distance is not a problem. I do however cross the line at the top of my swing and I have noticed on video lately that my head moves forward a few inches in the backswing too. I am flat at the 9:00 position (club pointing outside the ball). I have been trying to maintain the triangle as I go back to get a bit more upright.

I realise it's very tough to diagnose my swing problems without seeing it but some ideas would be gratefully received! I cant post a video as I am taping off my phone and the quality is not good enough to post.

Thanks for your help

Welcome...again!

What I suggest is this:

At address feel like your right arm is UNDER your left, and your right shoulder is lower than your left one.

Feel this the WHOLE backswing.

Report back.

Thanks very much Brian - i'll give this a go. Just had a quick go in the mirror without a club and that feeling gets me to rotate the lead arm a bit more which I imagine is what you think I need to do? Cant wait to hit some balls this week and report back.

Thanks

Brian,

I have been playing well this year by using what I have picked up from this site (dropped my handicap from 14 to 10) and then my swing seemed to suddenly leave me and I realized I was having much the same problems as nwb. After I read your reply to him, I got so excited that I went out over lunch and hit some balls using the feelings you described. My "good swing" is back!! Many thanks. I just purchases NSA for my son and he is very pleased with it. I may have to pay you a visit to see if I can take my game to another level.

Hi Brian - I haven't managed to get on the course yet so have only been swinging in my garden. I love the feeling of getting my front elbow higher and I almost feel laid off at the top with a nice flat wrist.

Looking at the swing on video however shows me looking not bad at the top, pretty much parallel, but i do look maybe a bit flat and certainly with this feeling i tend to drag the club back on the inside and look flat (club pointing outside the ball) on the way back.

Don't know if you have any further thoughts?

Quick update Brian in case you are interested. Finally got out on the course last night (i have had a bad wrist since my first post). I have say that the swing thoughts you gave me really seemed to help my consistency! My irons were very sharp and most had a hint of draw, i reckon I added 10 yards to my irons - hit some very long shots yesterday! Driving was great too - much more consistent and straighter. I did have a few pulls in the round - not severe - enough to keep me on the green.

Anyway just wanted to say thank you for your advice!
