Some background: I'm 54 and have played for twenty years from the right side of the fairway or the right rough thanks to a blocked tee shot. Never sliced, always well hit, always right. Sometimes draws back. Maybe this is a push, I'm not sure of the distinction. No such problems with the irons. I've always played fairly well, mid single digit handicap on a public course. I'm assume that this is the classic stuck move, as I have always played with a long slide.
I've been on an odyssey the past few years to cure this problem with no success. Have tried many methods and can always hit the irons with no trouble, but the same solid driver to the right. I have tried aiming to the left, but the brain won't allow that compensation. I tried the image of throwing the drunk off my back, same result. I always slide too much or turn too quick, hitting crappy duck hooks, cannot find the correct point. My opinion is that we have our own internal balance point, and mine has a forward slide.
I have read a lot of intelligent and thoughtful posts on this site and am hoping for some direction in finding a cure. My belief is that I come from too far on the inside. Does this mean that my hands are too close to my chest on the backswing? Any corrections or other advice?
Thanks, John
