There's a guy who gave us a lot and who just lost everything. Now it's on us to help him.

So I open up this thread where everybody can enlist to give Brian ANY kind of support. (There may be some construction engineers or craftsmen on the board ....).

Since I am living a few thousand miles away there is little more I can do than making a donation.

I hereby donate 100 Euros (about 130 Dollars)

I hope there are many more to follow.

I am guessing that we could contribute via Brian's Paypal account.

Would that be the best option?

I'm in for $500 (USD). Maybe Jim or Mike Stloc can give us particulars on the logistics of getting it done.

All you need to sign up is a checking account. Just follow the instructions.

It does take a little time to "verify" your account because they make two small deposits that you "verify" so that they know it is truly your account.

Paypal IS the easiest way BUT brian would be eating the fee's involved and might have to claim them on his taxes.

I'll try and give him a call and see what he wants to do.

Not sure what you mean about "claiming them on his taxes".

Gifts are not taxable income. If someone makes a gift over $11,000 to a single recipient it is taxable to the GIVER not the RECIPIENT [xx(] I am a CPA and individual income, gift and estate tax are my area of practice.

If anything Brian and others may need help sorting out the "casualty loss" income tax rules on this event. I'm happy to be a free resource to anyone on the board affected by this disaster....after all you all help me with my disaster of a swing.

God bless all. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Abudoggie, i "loosely" know the rules of gifts.

But brian's current paypal account is for his BUSINESS. So i don't want a ton of people flooding his business paypal account with a ton of cash.

I don't know how he does them, so i just figured we could wait and let him tell us what he'd like to do.

BTW...i think i might have to PM you about some of my own tax "issues" ;)

Yes Jim...I see now, and I agree with that. It may be best not to befuddle the business cash reciepts with relief gifts just from an ease of recordkeeping.

But if Brian or others need cash quickly for food medicine, clothes, new clubs;) or other such things, Paypal fees may be cheaper than wire fees and US mail, etc. may not be too swift now either. Lets see what Brian's preference is (and lets not forget others that may be affected as well).

I fear the aftermath may be a bigger mess than the event itself.

Glad to hear you and your family are ok. Sorry about the house. Hope you are covered by insurance. BTW, there are other places in this big country to live. We have a lot of room in Arizona and lots of sun and no hurricanes and lots of golfers who need help.

Ya, paypal would probably be the easiest way. I just figured he may want to setup a new account.

And to your statement above, its ALWAYS that way unfortunately

wow, guys...you certainly are generous......brian is now in baton rouge (prairieville) with his wife, lisa.....his home is most probably flooded....that is all we know for sure right now...i'm sure brian will get on tomorrow and give you more updates
