Hello All,

I am a new member that has been trying to change a couple things with my swing for the past several months to improve my ball striking. I'm spending lots of time and not really seeing any improvement. My wife is getting sick of me spending so much time trying to fix my swing!

Here is my current swing from today with a 9 iron:

My Edited Video - YouTube

I would greatly appreciate any advice you could lend.

The things I've been trying to work on without much improvement are:

- head moving forward in backswing

- over-rotating in the backswing causing too long of a backswing

If you see anything else I should work on, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

seems a bit open at the top...and also swinging to the right a little, probably due to open club face at the top

what are your ball flights? going left? or right?

I wish the camera was straight, i couldn't tell if you were sitting or bend over correctly..

Set up looks anything, but athletic. Looks like 1 push from behind and you will fall over. You need some knee flex, less lean over, and less attempt to do the ram rod straight back thing.

I am far from an expert, but I agree 100% with Soft. Just look tense to me...

No expert here but your posture looks good to me. I don't see a "ram rod straight back" at all. Plenty of curve in the lumbar spine which allows him to rotate through pretty good. I agree with more knee bend.

How tall are you? Clubs fit? Looks like you maybe over rotate your LAFW.

Oh and btw which is the most important: WHAT ARE YOUR MISSES?? What are you struggling with?

Hello,

I'm 5'11" and the clubs are standard.

My ball flight is generally straight, but I don't have a lot of power in my irons and I almost never take a divot.

My main miss is a thin hit.

Thanks for all your help.

Seriously with a little friendly sarcasm: You're wife is upset that you are working/changing/obsessing about things in your golf game? - so you've come on here for MORE advice!!! Here's my advice - get rid of the mat and net in the backyard. A) you won't be going out there every 5 minutes when you have a new idea. B) Your wife will be much happier that you are not "visibly" obsessing about your swing, C) you can obsess about it but you'll be in the closet so certain people don't think you are wacko and D) Can you take a divot with the mat? Swing like you would if hitting off of turf? NO The mat is not really helping you - probably hurting you. IN addition, a mat with a foam or plastic ball - really asking for trouble. Now when you go to the range for an hour and come home - your obsession won't be so visible. Hit balls off of real turf and see what it takes to take a divot after the ball. Just realize that hitting a foam ball off of a mat - doesn't require you to make a movement that works really well for a real ball off of real turf. Removing the mat, net and foam ball from the backyard is a real win, win. She's not really upset about your tinkering - that won't stop for the rest of your golfing career - she's upset that you're in the backyard all the time and she has to see it.

P.S. can you post your wife's email address we'd like to have her be involved in the thread

Get the front of your knees farther forward toward the balls of your feet. Should help the posture.

I see a little problem with your setup, your arms look a little tense. Maybe feel "softer" arms at address, get into your posture and just let them hang from your shoulders. Backswing- you have a lot of popout and over rotate your left arm. I would check out Brian's soft draw video, specifically the back and forth drill for a feeling of not over rotating and getting rid of the popout.

Here's my advice.........

1. Get a tripod. Put the camera on the tripod and align the camera parallel to the ground.
2. Trim the video to remove everything before and after one of the swings.

That will make it much for others to have a good look at your swing.

it seems that you might be a lefty playing righty? Fix your posture with a little more flexed knees getting your weight back a bit, get your hands back more inside and feel like you're pointing the club to the right at the top. It is seriously laid off and you cant turn through without wiping across it. point right, turn left...

First, get the wife a second job. With the proceeds from the higher income, get a Casio camera with HD slo-mo video, and get the guys some shots from face on and down the line.

Hahah. Thanks guys for the advice so far. I'll make some adjustments and post another video. Sorry but it will be the same quality as before. Thanks again.

You sound like I was before being manzellized. First is get some Manzella videos watch and absorb, 2 practice on grass if possible, 3 when practicing do not hit shot, after shot, after shot ,after shot with the same club, golf is not played like that I did that and that gave a me a sense of progress but it is not, hitting the same club over and over is an illusion of progress, progress is when one can pull any club at random and strike the ball fairly well and send it toward the intended target consistantly, 4 take yout time when practicing, rest is good, and always aim at a target, 5 develop a routine very important, maybe this should be 1st but not 5.

This post was a little too harsh to be considered a "soft" consult, but I agree with you 100%. The aforementioned modifications have been made. Thanks! ;)
