Help.....need the lag.

Newbie and first time poster.......

I am an average golfer. I shoot 85-90 on most days. Occasionally an 80 or a 79. I am 36, 5'9, 160....former college athlete. Finally got tired of being average and decide to go get a lesson and find out if I had any swing flaws that I could work on to become more consistent. Well after viewing a video of myself, my instructor shortened my back swing and pointed out that I was "casting." Clubhead, shaft, hands...all in a straight, vertical line from the ball at impact. I have an extremely high ball flight that fades right. I do have relatively good distance because I have an active lower body through my down swing. He said everything else was fine and if I can solve this problem, I should see dramatic results. Well, I can't seem to solve it. I don't have the $$$$ to spend on a lot of lessons.

So, I have started practicing in the back yard, into the net or with wiffle balls and just can't get it. I have searched different forums on different sites and have finally come here. I am sculling, chunking and doing things that don't even resemble golf shots. I am almost afraid to go to the course anymore. My buddy called me the other day to go play and I had to make an excuse not to go.......I am in dire straits here.

Can anyone recommend any videos on this site or posts that might help me? I do well with simple terms........the posts having to do with angles, levers, and other technical mumbo jumbo only confuse me more. I tend to think in sequences or simple thought processes in order to get me on the right track. (I am a teacher and coach......I have to translate information into these types of things on a daily basis.) I need to be able to watch or read something and then go practice it or try to repeat what I have seen or read.

Thanks in advance.

MG.....

I feel your pain man! Was in your situation last fall and took a lesson from Brian (actually 6 hours in a weekend).

I would love to tell you that after that weekend I became a scratch golfer. I actually got worse than better but.....not due to the insrtuction. There was a lot of things to work out regarding my swing. A big one was sustaining lag (not flipping)

Now, I am "mashing" the ball (for me, 48 years old, 5'9" 200lbs). I actually started mashing the ball much sooner but....with the added distance came other issues...mainly too much dispersion. Now the shots are much more predictable and the scores are coming down (4 points on my handicap in last 2 months). I am starting to get compliments on my swing (looks) and ball flight..and results.

I'm telling you all of this to say...you have found the mecca for learning and improving your individual swing pattern. It takes some longer than others but just be patient. There is no better plethora of info than bman.com

Thanks.....my pain is also partly due to the fact that the only feedback I have is what the ball is doing. (and by all observations, it is wrong) I also only have the one lesson to go on. Which is why I am here to search for something I can use and do myself to become a better golfer. Golf is an expensive game.....I'd be divorced if I spent money on lesson after lesson with two kids on a teacher's salary. :)

This is why I am looking for just a few solid instructional videos and drills to work on my swing and indvidual flaws. When I do a search on here for "casting" or "flipping" the amount of posts that come up is unbelievable and its almost like information overload. Sometime less is more.

No....not that at all. He told me that this was something that I had to commit to. He asked if I would be able to come back and see him occasionally this summer for several follow-ups. I told him if my finances allowed me to, I would definitely be back. He told me if I had to go on my own to look for info on casting, lag, flipping, etc. This is what led me here.

BTW Brian....when that video is up, where do I look? I am still getting familiar with your site. Thanks.

Brian, just want to say thanks for everything you have given to us "not-wanna-be hackers". You've given thousand of hours to all of us and just wanted to say thanks again.
