i am decent player, around a 2 or 3 handicap, however my ball flight is inconsistant. i tend to hit it too high, both on the club face and in the air. i tried some of the tips from this site, mainly getting the right shoulder going at the ball, or going over the right foot. i have also tried to work on the axis tilt, getting the tailbone going first while the head stays back. both have lead to shanks, and or big duck hooks. any help would be great.

What are your usual misses? I know you say high on the face and hit it too high but that could be a number of things.

What kinda ball flight misses do you get? Thin or heavy? Etc...need more info

Hitting a high ball that 'zings' isn't the same issue as hitting a high ball that 'floats'.

The first is likely a ball/shaft issue, the second is lack of compression.

A shaft that is too soft for your swing speed/power/tempo can cause a lot of inconsistant results. Have you tested a range of shafts? Also, many of the balls on the market are designed for players that lack compression (and thus spin a LOT and can upshoot on you). Spin is good, but you have to be able to control it. Try a lower spinning ball. You want the ball you can control best on a windy day.

i think i have misinterpreted you anyway brian. i n thinking of the right shoulder at the ball, i was using kind of an over the top move, having the feeling of my right shoulder going in my right pocket, seems to make more sense.
