High ball flight

Hi My Driver tends to have a very high ball flight and I was wonders what the cause of this might be and how I can fix it. Combined with my fade or slice its
killing my distance. I actually hit a lower ball with my 5 wood.
Thanks

The driver should have the highest ballflight in your bag. Now since you say "fade/slice" sounds like you simply have a open clubface and causing you to hit the ball with excessive loft.

It's a funtion of launch angle, ball speed, and spin.

Driver has more ball speed and should be able to go up higher than a 5 wood which will have less ball speed (but more spin).

I have heard it said in the past that all clubs should reach the same height. Not sure how true it is though, for me driver is the heighest.

Remember Liftoff Jim is talking about the height the ball reaches, not the angle to get there. While a 5 wood may launch steeper it will have less ball speed than the driver, therefore it will stop rising earlier in the flight.

Hope that hasn't confused you!!

Right, you are talking about initial launch angle.

If you took a driver that has 10* of loft and was able to launch it at say a 14-15* angle and then took a 5 wood that had 19* of loft you would be able to launch it (off a tee) at maybe a 21-22* launch angle.

So the 5 wood would launch higher but it wouldn't reach as high a point in the sky.

I think that we may have missed the original point of the post. Regardless of whether the driver hits the ball higher than any other club, what should someone do if they feel that they hit their driver higher than desired? Obviously, he/she could play with a driver with lower loft or alter the stiffness of their shafts but what swing adjustments should the consider? I assume that a swallower angle of attack might help or a slower transfer of wieght to the front leg. Other views?

Just one of a few possibilities...

Where does the ball strike the face of the club? Toward the extreme top? Or Maybe just hitting 3/4's of the ball?

Are you shifting forward? Got the ball too far back in the stance?

Stay back jack, and move the ball forward to promote a more upward blow, instead of a too much down and ballooning, distance robbing slice.
