A few questions:
Finally came to the conclusion that swinging flat like Hogan just isn't for my physique. I've been working on making my swing more vertical (more Jack Nicklaus-ish). I am having a lot of trouble getting a hands high finish (not a flat wrap around the neck finish).
My focus points have been to let the arms swing more across the body and finish with the elbows bent and facing the target (elbows in front a la Harvey Penick). When it works, I get some really beautiful high (and long) shots that are very accurate and land like a butterfly. When I get back to my flat finish, I lose control of the ball flight... it literally can go anywhere (blocks, hooks, yuck).
More and more, I am finding I need to match my followthrough to my high backswing. I can do it on short clubs, but long clubs are tempermental (almost as if I get too much ahead of the club, or have too much force across the shaft to let it release out in front of me). Is it maybe a tempo / timing issue?
Any tips on getting this more classic elbows in front high finish?
Also... the Alex Morrison rolling ankles footwork. Good idea, bad idea? I've been trying rolling my left foot instead of picking up the heel and I think I really like it. Certainly feels very stable.
