Awesome forum!!! Still like to drive to Louisville and work one on one!!!! But, an hour with you just isn't enough, sometimes!!!!! Could you give a good description of the different hinge actions and how and when they might be used??:):)

Thanks

Sure:

Now REMEMBER in the truest sense of the definition HINGE ACTION only takes place during the impact interval (IMPCAT to SEPARATION)...

So if you come to the inside-aft quadrant of the ball with the face slightly open ("normal" procedure) here is the 3 hinge motions:

ANGLED: 'no roll' - face STAYS slightly open (slight cut)
VERTICAL: 'reverse roll' - face opens MORE (big cut)
HORIZONTAL: 'full roll' - face closes slightly (straight ball to slight draw)

thanks for that explanation! It was simple and very understandable!! Other forums seem to get wordy and confusing in their explanations!!! KNew I could count on you:) Probably should start another topic, but would like to get your explanation of Extensor Action. I'm trying to piece together something I've noticed in other good players swings I see. Some people seem to increase the distance between the clubshaft and the right shoulder, while I myself( with your help!) hold the angle of the wrists, sustaining lag to the max; until my right elbow gets in front of my right hip!!! Since you've showed me this, I'm hitting the ball unbelieveably farther and more accurately as well!:D!! Why would someone want to swing the club any other way???[:0] It seems much more efficient[?][?]

Why would you want to get the hands farther from the head on the downswing?

Only reason is that if you make a long backswing, ala Davis Love, than if you can floatload by an extension outward away from the target until the hands get to a position similar to that of a NORMAL length backswing, then NARROW is better.

Extensor action: The right arm trying to STRECH the left arm away from its shoulder socket below plane. It WILL get to straight (the right arm) when the left arm gets released to 90degrees from the shoulders.
